About the Crew

MEET YOUR CREW:
CAPTAIN: Heiko Franken
CHEF: Ludeke Niehaus
FIRST MATE/STEWARDESS/SCUBA DIVE INSTRUCTOR: Rebecca Wu

Returning crew Heiko and Rebecca (3 Sisters, Felix, Tedavi, Big Nauti, Sail Away) are back for their sixth charter season in the Virgin Islands after five successful seasons running 75+charters. This dynamic couple is excited to be on Encore and look forward to welcoming you aboard, showing you the wonders of the Virgin Islands and creating memories to last a lifetime!

They are passionate about providing a highly professional level of service in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere while creating the most memorable experiences for their guests. They love getting to know you and tailoring each charter to your preferences and desires, allowing
you to kick back, relax and enjoy. With a deep love and respect for the natural world, they maintain a strong focus on environmentally aware hospitality and best practices to ensure minimal impact on the environment.

Heiko, born and raised in Germany, holds a RYA Yachtmaster Ocean qualification. He has been working as a professional yacht captain for five years and has crossed the Atlantic Ocean. He left his job in IT management in 2014 to begin his dream to travel. Initially intending to be away for about a year, he soon realized that going back to an office-based job did not feel right for him anymore. Since then he has travelled throughout South and Central America, Europe, Southeast Asia, Africa and Australia. During this time he visited 30+ countries, speed-hiked the Camino de Santiago, hiked up 5000m high mountains, learned to speak Spanish, learned to scuba dive and freedive and had many more beautiful experiences above and below the water. His love for freediving and yoga led him to obtain his instructor qualifications. Afterwards, he worked as a freediving instructor, spearfishing guide and yoga instructor in Indonesia, Australia, Thailand and Tanzania for four years before venturing into yachting. Heiko loves to be out in the blue of the ocean and enjoys sharing his passions as a guide by creating safe and unique experiences.

Rebecca is originally from New York City but considers herself a citizen of the world, having lived a nomadic lifestyle for over two decades. After graduating from NYU, she worked in investment banking, first in New York and then Hong Kong. A trip to Australia in 2005 changed her life - she learned to scuba dive on the Great Barrier Reef and fell completely in love with scuba diving. Two years later, she left the concrete jungle and trading floor for real jungles and sea floors. She spent two months diving her way around the Philippines, three
months on a marine conservation expedition in Madagascar and four months completing her Divemaster internship in Malaysia. Then, life took an unexpected turn and she found herself living in Sweden, where she discovered her love for sailing. Still holding on to her dream to
teach scuba and share the underwater world with others, she put her plans for sailing on hold and became a PADI Instructor in 2009, working in Thailand, Hawaii and Indonesia for a decade. Afterwards, she embarked on her third career as a yacht chef, enabling her to
combine her long-standing passion for gastronomy with her passion for sailing and life at sea. After four years, she decided it was time to step out of the galley in order to fully embrace the role of a dedicated Stewardess/Deckhand/Dive Instructor on larger yachts. She
loves life on the ocean, surrounded by water, nature and wildlife and thrives on sharing these passions with her guests.

Heiko and Rebecca met in Utila, Honduras while they were doing their Master Freediver course in 2015. After being in a long-distance relationship for several years, they decided to create a life together. Their mutual love for the ocean, travel and exploration led them to
obtain their RYA Yachtmaster Offshore qualifications together in Gibraltar in 2020, sailing thousands of miles along the coasts of Spain, Portugal and Morocco, dodging the infamous orcas along the way. Shortly afterwards, they crewed their first yacht together in the USVI
and have been flourishing as a team ever since.

Step aboard and meet the dynamic duo behind your unforgettable charter experience.

Chef Luka hails from a nature reserve near the coastal city of Gqeberha, South Africa, where his love for the outdoors and ocean was matched only by his passion for cooking. A competitive water polo player and open-water swimmer, he’s also been crafting flavorful, artful dishes since his teen years.

After earning a prestigious Cordon Bleu diploma from the Silwood School of Cookery in Cape Town, Luka trained in some of the most renowned kitchens in the world—including The Test Kitchen and Chef’s Warehouse. He later returned to Silwood to mentor aspiring chefs and launched The Messy Chef Collective, a bespoke private chef venture known for its imaginative, globally inspired menus.

Still, the call of the sea was too strong to ignore. Luka blended his two greatest passions—culinary artistry and ocean adventure—by stepping into the world of yacht cuisine. As both a qualified chef and skilled deckhand, he brings a perfect balance of creativity and capability to life aboard.

This amazing trio is guaranteed to give you the vacation of a lifetime in this beautiful destination - the British Virgin Islands.

Amazing Week

What an amazing week in the BVI. You all met our expectations and then some.
This was our first adventure in the BVI. We were able to visit all the hot spots!
Soggy Dollar, Long Bay, Anegada, the Baths, Bitter End, The Indians, Ginger Island. The food was delicious. Every meal was special and satisfied our Epicurian desire.

Attentive and responsive.
Snorkeling among vibrant and colorful sea life.

The food was absolutely phenomenal. Chef Luka is amazing and some of the best meals we have ever had.

We can't thank you enough

We need and want to take you home with us - AMAZING CREW!

Simply the Best

It was AMAZING. We ALL had a total blast. The crew were simply the best.

Heiko is a superlative captain - so steady and uber-responsible. He also was a great tour guide in general. His love for snorkeling and everything in the sea was contagious, and he took us to many out of the way snorkeling spots. I think my youngest grandson (10) wants to be just like Heiko when he grows up. 😂. Heiko really planned the perfect itinerary for our family. I feel like the activities, sailing, etc. were perfectly paced for all.

Rebecca is an amazing woman. Just so terrific, kind, and interesting. She took such good care of us every single day. Both Heiko and she always made sure Ed (89) felt safe, particularly getting on and off the dinghy.

Chef Luka set an incredible standard for fine dining at sea.
Thank you for providing us with beautiful meals that we raved about!!

We kayaked, snorkeled, paddle-boarded, tubed, and in general spent a ton of time in the water.

The boat was very comfortable, including the beds. The weather was terrific. The food was delicious. The crew was A+. The trip exceeded my expectations, and they were very high to begin with. It was a great family celebration, and we will always remember it as a very special and fun adventure. Though Ed didn’t do the water activities, he also really loved the trip.

Thanks for your help in planning a terrific vacation.

You Rock!

Our week with the three of you was FANTASTIC! It surpassed all expectations. Rebecca, your thoughtfulness and kindness shine through each day in all the many things you did for each of us.
Heiko, you are the Captain Extraordinaire! We felt safe in your ever-capable hands. You were an amazing ocean tour guide also. You have created time aspiring free divers in Charles and Arthur. Olivia loved all of your deep knowledge of the sea.

Chef Luka went above and beyond to make every moment magical.

In short - we love all of you and you ROCK!

Unforgettable Experience

Your hospitality this week has allowed this group to build on friendships, remember who we are as individuals outside of our everyday lives and rejuvenate ourselves fully.

Your knowledge of this beautiful place, ability to stay steps ahead of us and the weather, and the most amazing food to fuel us, made this a truly remarkable and unforgettable experience.
Thank you.

Island Dream For 7 Days

We have lived an island dream for 7 days. Thank you for allowing our family to drift away with y'all. So many magical memories have been made. I will miss being waited on hand and foot.

Heiko, thank you for being our fearless captain. You were always ready to create an adventure for us. And you sail beautifully. Your knowledge of the island and the water is impressive.

Rebecca, thank you for always being so eager to help us out when needed. And thank you for all the cocktails - our favorite part! And you catch the "rope" perfectly every time :)

Chef Luka, the food was BEYOND 10/10. Absolutely, unbelievable experience!

Well, it is time to go home. I have relaxed on a level I/we have never relaxed at and we appreciate y'all making that happen for our family. We will miss our floating abode.

God Bless

Impressive Chef

Chef Carolina (Cat) is an impressive chef.
Chef Carolina's food was exceptional. The care that she put into her food was
remarkable. She has a very broad repertoire when it comes to food. Being a foodie and
having been to many Michelin star restaurants all over the world, I would say her food is
right up there.
Her menu was well thought out using fresh, local ingredients; creative,
beautifully presented and absolutely delicious!
Carolina’s professionalism, attention to detail, impeccable service and fun-loving vibe was incredible.
We could not have enjoyed ourselves more even if we wanted to.
Thank you for an experience of a lifetime!
KRISTEN & IAN

Incredible Food!

We had such a great charter last week Carolina!! We were on the Catamaran with two
other couples that are great friends of ours! We all had difficult dietary needs such as
low carb, gluten-free and dairy free. Our chef, Carolina, did an awesome job of keeping
us well fed with incredible food! Our favorites were snorkeling at the Indians, exploring
at the Baths and relaxing on Jost Van Dyke at Soggy Dollar Bar! — with Andrea G.
and Christine L.
ROCKY L.

Spectacular Vacation

This was one of the most spectacular vacations I have been on.
Heiko and Rebecca - THANK YOU SO MUCH! Absolutely the best crew in every detail of the trip. And fun, great company.
Kept us safe and catered to our type of vacation. Thank you for taking the time to take us to the best spots - snorkeling was fantastic. The food was 5-stars!!
We will definitely be back!
